Ben and Charlie together outdoors

A letter from the founder

He wasn’t just a pet. He was my constant.

BarkLens was built in honor of Charlie — sixteen and a half years, and the tool his dad wishes he’d had.

Our story

For Charlie

When I met Charlie, I didn’t realize how much he would shape my life. He wasn’t just a pet. He was my constant, my teacher in patience and responsibility, and the one who quietly raised the bar for how deeply you can show up for another being.

Sixteen and a half years

Charlie was a rescue with a complicated medical history from the start. Over sixteen and a half years, we navigated chronic conditions, sudden flare-ups, and long stretches of uncertainty.

What made the difference wasn’t just extraordinary veterinarians. It was learning how to show up as a thoughtful advocate in Charlie’s care. I kept records, paid close attention to every detail, and worked alongside his veterinary team so he could keep living a full, joyful life.

Grief is tough. I built BarkLens as a project dedicated to Charlie. I wanted to build the thing I wish I had while he was alive. BarkLens is the thing I wished for in every waiting room of those sixteen and a half years.

Why BarkLens exists

Until recently, this couldn’t be built: something to hold a dog’s entire medical history, carry it into every answer, and pair it with published veterinary sources rather than a random blog.

I started this to honor Charlie. I’m finishing it for all of you reading this now. This is the tool I wish I had for Charlie, and it is now something I am proud to build for you and your dog.
